Author Archive for Cliph Page 2 of 30

This has since been fixed in recent versions.

Bumped into eller yesterday during our mutual lunches, she was with some co-workers so couldn’t talk much, here’s what happened next:

<eller> so my friend G. asked me where I know you from
<eller> and I said, "Oh, uh.. we're nerds together, I guess."
<eller> "He digs Unix"
<eller> And so, G. got all offended, and was like
<eller> "OMG don't tell me about your weirdo castrato fantasies”
<eller> he was thinking Eunuchs
<Cliph> haha
<eller> I know
<eller> talk about perspective
<eller> he was like “I dunno what Unix is”
<eller> (he runs OSX)
<eller> heh

This happens more often than you might think.

Do you know anything about… witches?

The MacWorld San francisco 2007 Keynote Address begins in little over 2 hours and I don’t know about you but I’m very excited. Listening to Venetian Snares new album (how much material can one guy produce, seriously) and the large white mocha I consumed on the way to work have both conspired to make me very gosh darned giddy.

Just the beginning

[ Update ]

Better than I was expecting. I want one yesterday.

You get to treat ‘em bad on the way back down too.

This year I think I have managed to almost entirely bypass christmas. I’ve bought no gifts and sent no cards and thereby have escaped the seething mass of zombie flesh that any shopping district becomes during the run up to this season. I’ve long become jaded of the 2 month christmas season, it begins the moment Halloween ends, I think, I hope that just after Halloween is as far back as christmas can be pushed.

Dublin, O'Connell StreetThe upshot, or is it a down shot?, and coupled with the distinct lack of wintriness, more of that anon, I’m not feeling very festive, a mild giddiness in me right now as I begin my last day of work this year notwithstanding.
I know that right now and for a few weeks Dublin has positively glowed with all manner of festive lights, which I can’t say that I don’t like. Here there are few lights in the streets and other indications that something is happening, even if I don’t wish to fully partake myself. Cake? Yes please but only if it’ll still be there when it’s gone.

I get the feeling that people here, around this time of year in particular and in contrast to people at home, don’t party, don’t jolly and don’t merry as I’m accustomed. We had our christmas party a few weeks ago and it was a dreadfully boring affair. Give me The Stag’s Head and a table of Guinness drinkers any day.

And the weather! It’s not very cold, there’s no snow and I don’t mind telling you that I feel gypped. I’m told there’ll be coldness and snow to come. There better be! Or or or I’ll complain on my website about it.

Ramble ramble ramble. OK enough.

Older Than I’ve Ever Been.

It’s already the 12th in Europe and very nearly here too so I suppose it’s ok to start celebrating by, eh, going to bed so I can be in work at 7am tomorrow to perform some essential maintenance.

I’ve never seen a turtle, but I understand what you mean.

It’s not all doom and gloom up here in the great white north, this here supercompouter is what I spend most of my days working with. The rest of my days are spent working on a vast collection of Apple hardware both server and workstation. There’s a whole lot more going on too but those are the most exciting right now.

Saturday is the office christmas party in this apparently swanky joint.

Paddy Progress Update.

Here’s an update; I still have no Internet, this is equally frustrating and crippling as I’m sure you can imagine. I’ve been turned down for a credit card by two institutions but that search continues, this is also quite crippling. Apart from those stumbling blocks, living and working are going well.

Bought my first pair of ice skates at the weekend, or if referring to ice hockey as anything other than “hockey” is a faux pas, perhaps they should simply be called “skates”. Went skating at the square in front of Town Hall . There were fireworks later which I got to almost see between two tall buildings from a far-away roof-top, it was still kinda cool.

OPP (other people’s pictures) from Saturday night here and here

Bursting with flavour, cotton laments

This kind of thing happens all the time:

HELLO!

There’s a Pie Fairy sighting in the NOOK (the south kitchen at the back of the 2nd floor).

Go…go…go…

When I got there, there were several blueberry pies and huge peacan pies. Last week there was Systems Apple Crumble with ice cream and the week before that there was company beer and pizza. There’s always cakes and candy floating around the office. Makes a waistline cry.

’tis far from this

I had Taco Bell for the first time on Sunday. I got a couple of bean burritos and fries. The fries were ok, probably the same or similar to the crispy fries from Burger King. What I’m most interested in is some kind of tray of fries with beans and cheese and guacamole and stuff, kinda like chili fries without the chili. So far from Roma II have I come.

On Monday my landlord rang me to let me know that since I haven’t bought a microwave yet she’s bought one for me, which is nice. I figure she knows it’s cheaper to buy one for me/the apartment than to pay for the electricity bill from me using the electric hob and oven all the time.

Today I used a Dual G5 PowerMac to prop open a cumbersome rack door.

I still have no Internets. Folks, if you thought Eircom uniquely bad, there are aggressively monopolistic incumbents across the world as I am unfortunately finding out.
