You could say that I’m back in the world but times are pretty tough. Thanks to all of you for your kind words a few weeks ago.
If you’re not a flickr watcher you may not have noticed, I’m attempting to complete a “365 photo” type project where I’ll take a picture a day for the entire year. It’s been going well so far with one of my pictures in particular getting coverage in the two largest Toronto blogs Torontoist and BlogTO. I hope I am able to keep it up so that I’ll be left with a pictorial record of what has begun as a very difficult year.
As I write my Grandfather is breathing his last breaths. I am flying home to Ireland on Monday, arriving Tuesday to be with my family but the reality we have accepted is that by the time I arrive he most probably will already be dead and buried. For now, and until he passes, he is sedated and surrounded by loving family. No one can ever hope for anything more.
My Grandfather is, and will always be to me, a hard working, kind, caring, noble gentleman who towered above me. A stunning, beautiful man. A loving husband, father and grandfather. He lived a full life, ran several businesses, had two children and six grandchildren. He never drank or smoked. His life was a triumph and I am in bits that it is over but know there is no tragedy here. A great man, if I can be half the man he was I too can be great. I am so proud to be his grandson.
Unconditional love, always.
