Somehow, and without any exciting, interesting story of depravity or debauchery, I injured my back on Sunday night. I felt a twinge just before bed but nothing too serious. When I work up on Monday morning I could barely walk so was confined to my bed all day.
Woke up this morning feeling marginally better. I can just about walk at a very slow pace more like that of an octogenarian. I was able to dress myself and shower. Victory for Team Cliph! Stayed in bed for a while and then hobbled slowly out to the chemist to get some Deep Heat (Ob. Wikip. Link) and a sandwich.
There’s a physio. at the end of my street but they’re booked out for today and tomorrow. Here’s hoping this clears up soon as I really can’t afford the time lost at this point.
This kind of injury is a little weird in that it only effects a small part of my body. The rest of me is ok but my mobility is also severely impacted. Most other debilitating injuries or illnesses I’ve experienced usually have some overall detrimental effect on your well being, like a flu for example.
I wish Darwin did a better job when he was designing our backs. Not so intelligent now, are you?
Ouch, sore back can be the worst. When I blew out my knee Lisa’s Army-Medic brother gave me a tube of something called Bio-Freeze which worked wonders at pain relief, it’s kinda Deep Heat like, but better and ectoplasm green.
Seeking professional advice is definately wise with back pains tho’
get to the chemist and over-dose on Neurofen plus. STAT!
You can combine Neurofen (not plus) and Solpadine.
Take one, then the other 2 hours later.
Obviously not something you want to do long term, but it’s what my GP told me to do when I hurt my back a while ago.
Get well soon.
The pharmacist I spoke to recommended alternating between my usual Solpadine and something with ibuprofen in it, i.e. Neurofen. Problem there is that, as far as I know, there aren’t any soluble ibuprofen products on the market and I can’t swallow tablets/pills so I’ll have to stick to the paracetamol & codeine in Solpadine.
I asked the pharmacist would he recommend Deep Heat (a heat treatment, oddly enough) or Biofreeze (a cold treatment, also oddly enough) and he said I might get some relief from a heat treatment so that’s what I went with.
“I can’t swallow tablets/pills”
Up until I was 20, I convinced myself I couldn’t swallow. Then I got a really bad tooth ache and by god, I wasn’t shoving those neurofens down my throat fast enough. Get over it [pussy]. Big GULPS.
Have you seen the size of my tonsils?
That’s redundant. I’m sure the chunks of food you swallow are much larger than a gulp of water with a pea sized pill taking a water slide down your oesophgasus. Just think of it as the Kerry Aqua Dome for medication.
Grind the nurofen down and put it in ice cream or on chocolate or something!
Personally, i’d rather swallow a brick than drink soluble pain killers.
Give me a shout when you’re feeling better and I can save you a trip to the doc (and the physio because they’re useless to you) if you like. I have a bunch of exercises I was told to do by a trainer and a doctor that prevented me from ever having another problem - i went from having crippling back pain every six months for two years to not having even a twinge in the past year and a half.
Have you got diagrams, charts and animated gifs?
