#…Of all I knew
I held too few
And would you stop me?
If I tried to stop you?

Because I haven’t had cause to visit a dentist or a doctor in recent times I thought it might be wise to go for a check-up before my trip abroad. Went to a doctor last week and a dentist today. Both of them basically told me that I’m awesome and that I should start procreating as soon as possible as it’s not fair of me to withhold my dashing genes from the pool any longer. Well, I’m paraphrasing a bit there. The doctor couldn’t find anything wrong with me. My BMI is a little higher than I would like but nothing to worry about and not unhealthy. Do you know what your BMI is? Do you care?
I’ve not been to a dentist in at least 10 years so I was a little apprehensive about my trip today and was sure I’d have to have some work done. I made my appointment to see a dental practitioner affectionately referred to by some as “Dr. Jesus” or his miraculously gentle chair-side manner and all round niceness. He told me my teeth are in great condition, that i have good brushing technique and gave me some tips on making it better so i can stay on top of my brushing-game. He also took some X-rays and not a cavity was there to be seen. Awesome.
On the way out I met our Neil in the waiting room. Popular doctor that guy.
My back is almost fully mended too. I went to phyiso. (happily located at the end of my street) last week and was told that my injury was a swollen disk in my lower back due to sitting down too much. It should get better on its own and I’ve been some lower back exercises and stretches to do. I should also walk more than I currently do. Foot is my primary mode of transport but I guess I still don’t walk enough everyday to keep my back strong so I’ll do more of that.
Not long back from seeing “Snakes on a Plane“, a movie, nay phenomenon, you may by now tire of hearing and reading about on blogs and journals. So, I’ll simply say that it’s excellent and that if you only see one movie about reptiles on anything this year, make sure your movie has Samuel L. Jackson in it. That is one bad melon farmer.
There was a whole lot of positive enthusiasm in the crowd and it was one of the very, very few films I’ve ever been at a screening of where people honestly clapped and cheered and it didn’t detract from the experience one bit (a midnight showing of one of the “new” Star Wars movies and Moulin Rouge are the only two that come to mind).
Everything in its right place.
Somehow, and without any exciting, interesting story of depravity or debauchery, I injured my back on Sunday night. I felt a twinge just before bed but nothing too serious. When I work up on Monday morning I could barely walk so was confined to my bed all day.
Woke up this morning feeling marginally better. I can just about walk at a very slow pace more like that of an octogenarian. I was able to dress myself and shower. Victory for Team Cliph! Stayed in bed for a while and then hobbled slowly out to the chemist to get some Deep Heat (Ob. Wikip. Link) and a sandwich.
There’s a physio. at the end of my street but they’re booked out for today and tomorrow. Here’s hoping this clears up soon as I really can’t afford the time lost at this point.
This kind of injury is a little weird in that it only effects a small part of my body. The rest of me is ok but my mobility is also severely impacted. Most other debilitating injuries or illnesses I’ve experienced usually have some overall detrimental effect on your well being, like a flu for example.
I wish Darwin did a better job when he was designing our backs. Not so intelligent now, are you?
As of now I have;
- 8 days left in my current job.
- 28 days left in Dublin.
- 34 days left in Ireland.
[ Update ]
I’ve just realised that after this weekend I have 2 weekends left in Dublin.
