Went ice skating last night and it was jolly good fun. Looks like a very good “date” activity too. Haven’t been skating on ice since Colorado and while I was (inline) skating this summer I didn’t get to do enough of it for my linking - despite investing in the most superest boots in the world at the start of the season.

Jóschka, my flatmate, is working very much on basis that ice-skating = good date activity too. With limited success so far, but he’s persistent, he’ll be okay.
The one time I went skating in Dublin it was in Dolphin’s Barn–is that closed? Or is Smithfield just massively more popular?
The one in Dolphin’s Barn and last time I saw it was a Des Kelly carpet/furniture place.
At xmasx time there’s a rinc in Smithfield and in the RDS, just for a couple of months though. Pity, I’d like if there was a rinc open all year.
i have to say, i find the rinks in dublin very scary… of course they can’t have zambonies flying around all the time caring for the ice but they could put in a bit more effort to maintain the ice. the last time i was in the RDS there were massive grooves. people could get hurt *shakes head* .. i think a year-round ice rink would go down very well!
Yeah, the ice was cut up pretty bad and it took me a while to get used to it and there were far too many people on the ice at the same time. But, it’s one of the few options available for ice skating in this country and it was plenty of fun :)
The Dolphins Barn Ice Rink in an ironic kind of way burnt down believe it or not! Many suspect an insurance scam as it wasn’t doing very well at the time it closed.
Bowling can be a good date activity too..
