We, the office, went out for dinner as we are wont to do on Fridays, to Café Bar Deli. The guys gave me a signed card with pleasantries and a €40 voucher for Laser. Thoughtful because they see how many DVDs I get delivered to the office (unusually high number delivered this week, 12).
That was nice.

You think you deserve that pain but you don’t.
Consider the foodlog on hold for now because, boy, that was hard work.
I’m currently giving “American Edit” a listen. Just got to the Doctorin’ The Tardis mash-up (I think we used to call them “white-labels” when I was a kid). I wouldn’t say I’m a fan of Green Day at all but this isn’t too bad so far. I really liked the Grey Album and this could be considered genealogically close.
Watched St Elmo’s Fire last night. While it is a worthy addition to my Brat Pack and, more specifically, Ally Sheedy collection, it was kind of depressing.
Had our work party last night, we went to the Boulevard Café. Nice place, nice food and it came quickly. Lots of other christmas parties there too. When I was tucking into my main course I was very pleased to hear Kenny Roger’s rendition of ‘When a Child is Born’ coming over the speakers. When we had 3 courses down they cranked up the music and everyone, now being quite drunk, got up and danced. First to some crimbo classics (Live Aid etc.) and then some old reliables (Dolly Parton). Meal details below.
After the meal and before my smashed colleagues went to some wine bar on Leeson street I said my goodbyes and went to meet some people in Spirit. I was very surprised to find out that my name with a +5 was on the guest list. That was quite funny. I must have emailed someone last week asking about it, I never got a reply though. The part of the night spent in Spirit was good fun actually, carefree dancing. Very cruisey place. Didn’t get to bed until around 5am.
Arrived to work at around 11am and found out this very pleasing news from Smart Telecom. They’re upgrading everyone to 6Mb/s download, 512Kb/s upload for a month starting December 15th. Very nice. I’ve always been happy with the 2Mb/s download but it’ll probably be difficult to go back to after a month of 6Mb/s. Hopefully this “offer” is actually a trial of a higher capacity service that might be on offer in the future.
I’ll be 26 in 3 days. Hold me.
Tuesday evening through to Friday morning eats Continue reading ‘Waiting for threads to wake-up’
John is in San Francisco right now and on his first morning there he stared a little too long at a car-jacker and got a gun flashed at him, impressive. It’s like something straight out of a country-boy-goes-to-experience-the-big-city movie. I wonder if he found out whether In and Out Burger serve coddle. :)
Check out this episode of “The Computer Chronicles” from 1984 where they talk about the new and exciting field of computer games. Near the end Ireland gets a mention when they’re doing a brief piece about third world countries poaching jobs from Silicon Valley. The upcoming 286 chip also gets a brief mention.
I’ve mentioned Olde English before and I really like their sketches. One of their best is called “Gym Class“. Watch it and then watch an unreleased Xbox 360 ad (2.9MB WMV). Similar? Very. Dissappointing.
Monday Lunch through to Tuesday Lunch Continue reading ‘Fried in the French manner’
The world from my window, or, how my street looks. The view is sometimes distorted by the condensation on the glass, I think it looks nice all the same, the colours in the sky are usually not what one would expect, perhaps as much by atmospheric causes as by poor lighting for the CCD in the webcam.
Admittedly., the view outside isn’t all that interesting, perhaps it would be better to have the webcam looking out my office window.
I’ve been finding it difficult to get out of bed on time these past few weeks and I think I might have figured out why (aside from the general not-caring-about-work-ness). Marian Finucane used to be on Radio 1 from 9am, after Morning Ireland and that was my wake up call. If I was still in bed by then I was in bed too long and I’ll jump from bed to hit the button before I heard her voice. I don’t like her on the radio all that much. Now Ryan Tubidy has filled Marian’s old slot and I don’t really mind listening to him at all so the impetus for jumping out of bed is gone.
Mario Kart DS finally arrived, ask me for my friend-code if you want to play.
Thursday evening, Friday, the Weekend and this morning Continue reading ‘Six Million Windows’
I have recently made friends with the swans and other ducks living on the Grand Canal in Portobello and I’ve been feeding them lots of my bread. The cygnets in particular are very friendly or fearless and will come right up onto the bank and look you in the eye. They snap the bread out of my hands and will snap at my clothes too. I’ve petted some of the cygnets on their necks. they’re soft but boney.
The last loaf of bread I bought in Dunnes was stale and out of date and stale when I bought it and since I’ve never, ever, had a possitive customer experience with Dunnes it’s not worth my while trying to complain about it. Dunnes Stores has an active hatred for their customers. Any way, less about that, now I’ve got a whole loaf of bread to feed the ducks with.
