The Mack came back

Checking out of the hotel in an hour, catching my flight in 3. Haven’t bothereed sleeping tonight because I slept for most of the day. I’ll be back in Dublin around 5-ey 6-ey O’Clock.

LQQK - Evidence.

I recorded a video diary (13 MB h.264). Watch the video on Revver.

Why Skype Is Good

Skype (Wikipedia article) has become the de facto IM client in my place of work. This pleases me. We have two offices, Dublin and Paris, and also have a sales person in each of the US and Switzerland that travel a lot, so using a VOIP product like Skype makes a lot of sense. We’re kind-of/almost/maybe a VOIP or VOIP technology company too so this technology “clicks” or or fits in with us.
We use Skype to make inter-office calls or to contact travelling colleagues. The sound quality is far superior to mobile telephony and we found it much more reliable too (calling into or out of my mobile while I’m in Bangladesh is very problematic). Don’t forget cheap, my mobile bills for the last trip to Bangladesh topped out at €1400(!). That Skype traffic is encrypted is great and makes it perfect for corporate communications (recent security advisories notwithstanding). Also, Skype is cross-platform, one of my requirements for considering a piece of software really worth using.
One thing I don’t like about Skype is that if you purchase SkypeOut credit with a credit card you can no longer purchase credit for another account with that same credit card. For that reason I had to put credit I purchased for work use onto my personal Skype account so I wouldn’t prevent myself from doing the same at some point in the future.

My, personal, Skype name is “cliphwinters“.

To encrypt my personal IM conversations I use OTR in Gaim or Adium.

With a honk, honk here

I’ve arrived here safely. Just had some blueberry pancakes with maple syrup and am watching an old episode of The Drew Carey Show where Drew is really thin.
Changed room once because the first room I was in had broken Internet, and I’ve been on to them again because since the last time I was here they’ve a new Internet-system-thingy, including a firewall that’s blocking port 22 and that simply wont do.
The flights were much less gurelling this time and BA compared very favourably to Emirates. The food was as good or better and the portions were bigger! Oh and there was at least one F-word in the movies, that’s practically unheard of on in-flight movies, right? I watched Dear Wendy and Madagascar, both were enjoyable. (Dustin Hoffman was the F-er, in Outbreak.)
It’s kind of nice to return to a hotel where you recognise all the staff.
Note to future-self: bring a video-out cable when travelling next. If I had one with me I’d be able to watch the TV on my iBook and DVDs etc. on the not-too-shabby TV in my room.
Dhaka seems a little cooler but still very humid.
Sleep maybe?

Like a drifter I was born to walk alone.

I’m off to Bangladesh again on Sunday. I’ll be back on Saturday, 29th.

Nobody

#…Nobody knows why Cliph had to fly to Bangladesh
Nobody knows what Cliph had to do
Nobody knows why some of us get broken hearts
And some of us find a world that’s clear and bright
You could be packed up and ready
Knowing exactly where to go
How come you miss the connection?
No use in asking…the answer is nobody knows
No use in asking…the answer is nobody knows…#

I love a parade.

Would anyone like to come see Harry Hill in Vicar Street? I would like to go but I’m not sure if I’ll be in the country right then.
Funnily, last time I had plans to go see a comedy show I couldn’t make it because I was in Bangladesh and Maria went in my place.

Raise You Rice

I’m probably going to Bangladesh this Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Details haven’t been pinned down. I’ve told work that I don’t want to be away the coming bank holiday weekend, or specifically, Sunday - Party!
Had take away Indian from Surma last night. The best Indian in Dublin? Probably. I certainly had a feast; Onion bhajee, popadoms, naan, (proper) pilau rice, saag aloo
Vanilla Coke seems to have disappeared from shelves. I’m not a huge fan of coke but I did like the vanilla. Most distraught I am.
