I’ve bought some post cards. Would any one care to take bets on the chances I take them home unwritten with me as usual?
If you want a post card from Bangladesh please send me your address to <firstname>.<lastname>@gmail.com or post a comment below.
No promises!
I’m still here, not actually sure when exactly I’ll be leaving. We’re making some progress. I’m giving training tomorrow. That’s the part of this whole project I’m most nervous about.
Mobile communication I’ve found difficult or poor quality, Vodafone tell me they don’t have any official roaming agreements with any of the operators here. I don’t get most of the text messages sent to me and I only get certain parts of multi-part messages. If you’ve sent me something and I haven’t replied - that’s why!
I wrote, what I think is, a good explanation of what I’m doing here in this comment.
Watching really old Baywatch on Indian TV.

Looks like I’m going to be staying in Bangladesh for a while longer than expected. The work hasn’t been going as planned. I may even have to push back my Canada trip.
I’m going to be here until at least the 12th.

Some band called ‘Jal‘ are staying here on the 4th floor, the one below mine, tonight. What, the executive suites on the 9th, 10th and 11th floors weren’t good enough?
There was quite a commotion outside with police and fans and cameras and flashes and so on and I just slipped on through.

… could be the start of a series
They drive on the same side of the road as us and most of the cars are Japanese.
They use the same sort of electricity and plugs as us.
They have 6 seasons, each of which is named after the type of weather associated with this season.
Flight 1/3 - Dublin to Heathrow
Passable cappuccino and a tasty sandwich at what were inexpensive prices (short flights don’t include meals) for airline food. Impressed am I.
Sitting in the departures lounge in in terminal 3, across from an Irish pub, for gate information on my flight to Dubai. Here comes Asia.
Trying for a second time to get a pass from a T-Mobile hotspot. It seems to be failing again. Hope they don’t charge me twice for both failed transactions.
Terminal 3 in Heathrow is certainly an interesting place, all the flights departing here are International so you have a people from literally everywhere here.
Guh, the T-Mobile thing failed again. Will have to post this from my next stop.
Flight 2/3 - Heathrow to Dubai
Pleasantly uneventful. Emirates’ planes have a somewhat cheesy cream interior but their service is great. Each seat has a tft in the back and a selection of movies, videos and music available. At least one of the passengers and cabin crew were Irish. Can’t go anywhere without meeting a paddy.
You wouldn’t believe (or perhaps you would) the number of ships I saw in the water on their way to or from Dubai port. Dubai looked quite spectacular from the air. Grabbed a snack in Starbucks in the Airport.
I have to admit that I forgot, for a while, what country Dubai is in despite being there at the time.
Flight 3/3 - Dubai to Dhaka
I was amongst the handful of “westerners” on this flight. After the first Emirates flight where the movies and tv are run on a schedule off VHS, I was thinking it’s about time such systems were replaced by fully digital ones that can be paused, stopped and started by the viewer. They could probably store far more videos and music on them. Sure enough, the second Emirates flight, also on a Boeing 777 had such a system. One downside is that the jack in the arm rest for headphones now has two separate jacks so you must use the provided headsets and not your own as I am more customer to doing.
flying over the middle east in the dark was peculiar. I had no idea what I was seeing. Patches of glitter in the pitch black.
Bangladesh airport leaves you with no doubt that you’ve entered the third world. In may respects it reminded me of Longford. If there was an International airport in Longford I expect it would look, and be run like Dhaka International.
Arrived at my hotel early, or was it late, I’m not really sure. Had a shower and slept almost until it was time for work.

I made it. The face the looks back in the mirror looks like shit. Travelled for 11 22 (that should have read 22, not a paltry 11) hours non-stop, half way across the world on three consecutive flights sir?
