Welly welly

Looks like I’m going to be staying in Bangladesh for a while longer than expected. The work hasn’t been going as planned. I may even have to push back my Canada trip.

I’m going to be here until at least the 12th.

what are you actually doing over there anyway?

Ok, are you sitting comfortablely? Then I’ll begin …

The company I work for has a product called the OMP that includes, amongst other things, an SS7 processor (at least that’s what I call it), a Voice XML Interpreter (market leader here I think, certainly technologically) and an SSML processor (which is a server for granting access to TTS and other audio services). To use our SS7 processor, you must use one or two (depending on the E1/telephony configuration you have) telephony cards (PCI cards). Part of your purchase of the products includes the act of an engineer installing those cards in a server and also installing and configuring the software. Purchases usually include training, I’ll be giving two days of that too.

I’m doing such a deployment here in Bangladesh for a GSM operator. We’ve been having some difficulty with the E1 configuration. After many hard days and late nights we’ve narrowed down the problem to being an ISUP version mismatch between our node and the MSC and we’re currently testing a workaround.

You, and many others, have asked. Now you know.

I wasn’t looking forward to coming but I have learned a bunch of stuff while being here so that’s very positive.
