Happy SAAD

It’s that day again. Happy Sys. Admin. Appreciation Day.

Where’s my pizza and/or cake?

[ Update ]
I had to get my own Hortons donuts.

I’m not iron, man

Can he see or is he blind?
Can he walk at all,
Or if he moves will he fall?
Is he alive or dead?…#

Post Mortal

The gig last night went really well, we got out our best ever sound out I think. Crowd reaction was also good. Will have to try and get a gig in Whelans again or some other venues with good sound systems.
I went home relatively early and I believe I missed some hi jinx afterwards. That’ll learn me.

Can you do the Pingu Dance?

PinguDavid Hasselhoff can.

In 1989, David Hasselhoff released (in Switzerland only) the single “Pingu Dance”, a rap song based on the Pingu shorts and featuring a number of samples of Pinguish.

Do the Pingu.

Whe all love Whelans

Don’t forget, as I almost did to make the relevant blog entries, The Clap will be blasting through the PA in Whelans tomorrow evening. We’re on at 8pm and the fee is a measly €10. Measly when you consider we’re giving away a free CD to everyone who attends! (If we could have had a cheaper door-price we would, sorry, it’s outside of our control).
We’ve been working hard on the recordings for the CD and practicing, we have a good show lined up. The CD we’ll be handing out is a pre-release public beta of the upcoming “V-D Day” EP.

Water wings

My flights are booked and this morning I made a booking for 8 nights in the Dhaka Sheraton. I’m flying on August 5th and returning on August 13th. Check out the Sheraton, no seriously, check it out. It’s Bangladesh’s only 5 star hotel, there are 5 restaurants, Satellite TV, Broadband, a pool and a gym all that kind of lark that warrant stars times 5. I may not leave the hotel much at all. I’ve been told that due to the awful Dhaka traffic it can take up to an hour to get to the office I’ve been working in from the hotel.
My copy of the Mysterious Skin OST arrived today. I really enjoyed that film and the score had a big impact on me - I wasn’t surprised to find out that it was by Harold Budd (and Robin Guthrie). I’ve got some other Budd material that he did with Brian Eno that I really like. I love ambient, atmospheric music and often use it for therapy. That and 80’s classics, 6 minutes of Oingo Boingo can do wonders. Still have The Postal Service on repeat though, I may have a problem.
Just as I was getting off to sleep last night I heard some commotion from upstairs where some man was shouting asking for water, sounded like a drunk. When I sat up in bed and looked at my windows I saw bright shimmering orange light. Got up and peeped out my venetian blinds to see the skip, that my landlord has been filling with junk earlier, ablaze. Some blaggards with nothing better to do on a humid summer night must have set it alight. Got dressed quickly and helped the people upstairs to ferry buckets of water to the skip but the fire brigade arrived before we had more than one thrown over. They had the fire under control in no time. There was lots of smoke, my apartment smelled a bit smokey after wards. This morning the skip was full of water and charred remains. That was a little exciting for a Sunday night.

Funny sometimes

In a romantic comedy based on my life (comedy and romance sometimes optional), who would play me and who would play you.

I have two already picked out;

Karl would be played by Richard E. Grant and Maria by Bette Midler.

Ow, my arm

Ow, my credit card. Vaccinations aren’t cheap. Just been to get 3 shots. Now I’m covered for Polio, Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Tetanus and Diphtheria. I also need to get a Meningococcus Meningitis jab but they wouldn’t give me that one today because they said that’d be too much. So, I’ve to go again next week.

My immune system is working full ahead steam right now. They told me I might feel light headed.
