I feel like a bit of an idiot right now. My current credit card expires at midnight tonight. My new chip & PIN card arrived months ago and I put off using it until I absolutely had to1. I’m sure I put it “somewhere safe” but I can’t yet figure out where that place is.
[ Update ]
Rang my bank’s 24-hour banking service and had the misplaced card cancelled and requested a new one be sent out. No charge for my idiocy. Sorted!
1. The reason banks have adopted the chip & PIN solution is that it shifts the burden of liability, in the case of fradulent transactions, from the bank to the card holder. The benifit to the end user is tenuous at best.
Usually when you get a new card it’s period of validity overlaps with your old one no? That’s my experience anyway!
Yeah, the new card arrived months ago and I put it aside. I’ll probably find it sometime in the future when I’m tidying.
Yeah, I have my Chip n’ Pin at home too,
But then so is my Old Card.
I’ve had to stop carrying my Credit Card around with me…
Gah hate that.
I lost both my atm and my credit card a few months ago. It took the bank far too bloody long to get my atmcard out to me. The credit card arrived out pretty quickly.
I was tidying my room the weekend after the credit card arrived and found both cards.
Weirdly enough I just got my Pin for my Chip and Pin card today. Now I just have to wait for the card!
Re chip & pin.
Banks etc are providing signature cards. Just ring your issuer and request one.
Don’t like chip & pin as the ownness should be on the banks and not the retailer to deal with fraud. We have enough numbers to remember as it is.
Also how much money do they want to make. Our company are charged over £250GBP per month just for the being able to process cerdit cards. Now they are asking us us to accept responsibility for fraud also.
Even then in most cases the money processed in this way does not get credited to our accounts for up to seven days. What happens to your money in the meantime. The banks make interest on it.
