Rome wasn’t burned in a day

I’m now in the land of dial-up while I’m between DSL providers. Smart Telecom seem to be jolly slow at getting me setup.

Two of the most eagerly anticipated events of the year happen on Friday:

  1. Apple release the latest version of Mac OS; 10.4. I probably wont get a chance to play with it properly for a while but it looks really great.
  2. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy starts showing in cinemas. This also looks like it’s going to be quite good. With Stephen Fry, Alan Rickman, Bill Bailey and a gaggle of others, how can it be bad?

I happen to have the day off work on Friday so I think I’ll beat the rush and see H2G2 in the afternoon. I don’t have the day off especially to see it but there’s a rumour starting in work that I do. Speaking in work, they stiffed me for time I spent travelling on my last trip. I’ll make sure that the next time I travel I do as much as possible of it on the company’s time. Grumble.

[ Update ]
The Verdict: It’s Ok, but not smashing-super. It didn’t have enough jokes or passages from the guide which, for me, were the funniest parts in the originals. There are worse ways to spend 110 minutes.
Caveat: I’m a grumpy sod, you’ll probably enjoy it lots.

I’m thinking of going to hitch hikers tonight.

Generally delays in getting a new telecom provider are due to eircom being utterly uncooperative. Feckers. And when you switch, they’ll call to your house about twice a year trying to get you to switch back.

    I like that.

    Colm is entirely right.

Having written a large portion of the stealCustomerFromEircom() software for Smart, I can say that the bottleneck is at Eircom’s end.

If only I still worked in job-1, and I could bump you up the rankings a bit.
