Smart Telecom Broadband - What’s the story?

I thought Smart Telecom’s promised offering of uncapped, uncontended 2MB DSL was too good to be true until I did some searching. Garfield Connolly, a representative from Smart, has taken the wise move of answering questions from hundreds of potential early adopters on boards.ie. His first post and subsequent answers quelled all of my concerns about the legitimacy of their offering and claims. Add to that some press releases about what Smart have been doing recently and you’ll find that they’re now well equipped to deliver on these promises;

My 12 month UTV Internet broadband contract has just expired so I think I, and many others, will be making the switch to Smart. The 128Kb upload is a bit of a stinker though.

    Not that’s strange - they say my area (Finglas exchange) isn’t DSL ready, but I already have UTV Internet DSL. Why do they not like me!

    Smart are using unbundled exchanges. You’ll have to wait until they get their own equipment into your exchange, some exchanges can’t be unbundled due to power or space constraints.
    If you read some of the articles linked you’d already know that :)
